Review: Grave Bound by T.R. Graves

My Rating: Kiss

Genre: New Adult Romance/Thriller

Steam Level: Warm – Hot

Grave Bound is very hard book for me to rate/review. My feelings ranged from 1 star – 5 stars at different times throughout this story and I finally ended up somewhere in the middle. It is very slow paced, especially in the beginning. When I picked up this book I was looking for something different and unique and it certainly delivered in that aspect. Its premise is something that hasn’t been done before. Emily lives in a patriarchal commune that is ruled by her father. She has never known a life outside of the commune, but when a day of hooky turns into a chance meeting with two outsiders Emily’s life as she knows it begins to unravel and feelings she never thought possible begin to blossom.

The Commune or The Community as they call it grabbed my attention from the beginning, however I felt like there were a lot questions left unanswered. Some of the situations and lifestyles were a bit unbelievable and it was never exactly explained what the community was or why it was formed. And when some of the community secrets were revealed in the end I was left a little…underwhelmed? After all the buildup  I was expecting something a little more, but there is a second book coming out so maybe more information will be revealed at that time.

Emily was a very interesting heroine. While I loved Emily’s personality, I didn’t really understand how she turned out to be so outgoing, strong willed, and a little spit fire with the circumstances of her upbringing. Her dialogue also bothered me, it felt very redneck and uneducated (and that’s saying a lot coming from me who was raised in Alabama) and it was also inconsistent. She spoke with this very country accent but it didn’t transfer over to her thoughts or inner monologues. She was prone to overreacting and had NO patience.

Levi was definitely a swoon-worthy alpha male, almost too perfect! I’m not usually a fan on insta-love and this book was no different. The connection between Levi and Emliy came on too sudden and too perfectly for me to feel the chemistry between them, at least at first. But by the end I had warmed up to the connection between them, however they had only known each other all of about 2 or 3 weeks.

My favorite part of this book? The ending! The pace and writing really picked up in the last third or so of this story as the plot started to come together. And the last chapter or so? Holy crap, I never saw that ending coming! Obviously I can’t say more than that because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will say it was heart-stopping, gut-wrenching, and will leave you hanging! But don’t worry, the second book Under-Ground will be released sometime the summer.

This book is full of friction, sexual tension, and danger. If you’re looking for a unique and jaw dropping premise that has a little romance mixed in then you should add this on to you TBR.

Feature and follow Friday #2

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

Feature and Follow is a weekly meme hosted every Friday by Parajunkee's View & Alison Can Read

How it works
  1. First thing first you leave your name on the bottom of one of the host sites , (Parajunkee's View & Alison Can Read using the linky tools — keep scrolling!)
  2. then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and
  3. then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!
Question: What is the most emotional book scene you've ever read in a book and how did you react to it?

Answer:
I've have been racking brain thinking of a book this I got emotional about and then I found it hopeless. I don't want to spoil it but when she finds out about her past. Aaah I remember that day my boyfriend took me out to one of his family dinners he had been trying to get me to for ages. I was bored half way threw the meal so I took out my phone (have the kindle app on it). I read that science and I started bursting in to tear like literally in the middle of dinner I swear like the hole table thought I was crazy. My boyfriends mother trout it was because she said that the food wasn't nice in the restaurant.... Loool way to make a first impression she still thinks I'm crazy.

Another time was when I read the ending of consequences . I was so mad and shocked I threw my kindle across the library .... Well it broke .... And I got banned from the library for two weeks. The school as thought I was crazy and recommend me to see the school therapist!!

Synopsis

From the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Kendall Ryan comes the sexy and seductive Resisting Her.

But he isn’t prepared for Savannah and her knock you on your ass good looks. At nineteen, she’s too old for foster care and too damaged to live on her own. With nowhere else to go, and against his better judgment Cole takes her in.

But helping her out won’t be easy. He comforts her through screaming nightmares and escaping the lingering fears of her past, but that’s the easy part. Her preference to sleep cuddled up next to his warm body, and her desire to please him in every way makes her harder and harder to resist.

GIVEAWAY and Mini Review: Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec

Giveaway at bottom of post!

Seduction and Snacks Mini Review:

My Rating: Rape!

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance/Humor (18++)

Steam Level: Hot – Super Hot!

This book is freaking hilarious and I LOVED it. It’s very different than most reads and I will warn you that the humor can be dirty and a little obscene at times, but that’s one of the things I loved most. Tara Sevic will take you places you never even thought about going!

Case in point: "Give me a cat over a kid any day. You can open up a bag of Meow Mix, plop it down on the floor next to a bucket of water, go on vacation for a week, and come home to an animal teats so busy licking it's own ass that it has no idea you were even gone. You can't do that with a kid. Well, I guess you could, but I'm sure it's frowned upon in most circles. And if my kid could lick his own ass, I'd have saved a shit load of money on diapers, I can tell you that."

You HAVE to read this book, especially if you've had kids. I literally had to leave my bedroom because I was keeping my husband up laughing. If I EVER think about having more kids, please someone make me go re-read the first couple chapters of this book! Even the chapter titles are funny!

There is a plot to this story, although it is very simplistic and cute. The humor is beyond anything I have ever read and there are some pretty H.O.T bedroom scenes. It was just what I needed after a string of darker, deeper reads. Be warned however, it can be a bit vulgar and you might pee in your pants.

"All the baby books written by women who had the most perfect birth experience in the world said you should talk to your child in the womb. That was about the only piece of advice I took from those things. Every day I told him if he ruined my vagina I would video tape his birth and show all his future girlfriends what happened to your who-ha when you had sex, ensuring that he will never ever, get laid."

I HIGHLY recommend you give this one a try if you haven’t already!!!

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
