Review: This Girl by Colleen Hoover

My Rating: Date (4-4.5 stars)

Genre: Mature Young Adult Romance

Steam Level: mild – warm

“Then this girl completely shatters the window to my soul and crawls inside.”

This Girl is just as beautiful, emotional, and sweet as Slammed and POR. I don’t read much in the YA genre and when I do I have a hard time enjoying/relating to it, but the Slammed series has definitely be an exception. Colleen Hoover’s writing style is elegant, quirky, and simply beautiful. She has become an author that I will read no matter what genre or theme her book is.

This Girl puts a unique spin on the male POV book. Will and Lake are on their honeymoon and are reliving their past epic moments, both good and bad, as Will shares his side of things with Lake. The entire time I read this, I had a happy smile on my face. That is what Will Cooper does to me. He proves that a sweet, good guy can be just as sexy and desirable as the bad boys we all crave.

“It’s almost as if the moment we said “I do” yesterday, the hardships and heartaches we faced as individuals were meshed, making our pasts lighter and easier to carry. “

We get to see some scenes we missed out on in Slammed from Will’s pov and we to delve a little deeper into his past, but there are no huge or unexpected revelations. We do get a couple new slams, as well as some old favorites, and there are some scenes between Caulder, Kel, and Will that are really funny! I’d forgotten how much sexual tension there was in Slammed, or maybe it was just more pronounced in This Girl since we are seeing the story from the head of a guy, lol.

“I’d kiss her mouth, I’d kiss her cheek, I’d kiss that line from her ear down to her shoulder that I can’t stop staring at. She’d let me, too. I know how hard this has been on her, I can see it in the way she carries herself now.”

The Epilogue. Holy butterflying epilogue! If you are hesitant to read this because you don’t want to read a re-telling of Slammed, you still need to read it for the epilogue. It was a PERFECT ending to this series and brought tears to my eyes. It is both a suck and a sweet to see everyone have their happy ending and to say good-bye to these characters.

Note: If you have not read Slammed and Point of Retreat, you absolutely HAVE to read those two before This Girl. You can find the series reading order and purchase links below, I HIGHLY recommend them for a quick, sweet, and angsty read.

An ARC was kindly provided for review.
